Check out these first-time mum gift ideas for inspiration — make sure she feels as special and supported as her bundle of joy
Bringing a baby home is such an exciting time for new mums. From the moment they enter your home, they change everything forever. Friends and family get excited. They send presents in the form of cute outfits that will be outgrown in weeks, adorable shoes that’ll never really be worn and cuddly teddy bears that baby will grow up with. All these gifts are perfect for baby — but what about mum?
As lovely as being a new mum is, it can also be isolating. So new mums need to know that they have a support system in place, with people who care and want the best for them. New mums want to know people are thinking of them as well as the gorgeous new addition to the family.
With that in mind, we wanted to take some time to discuss first-time mum gift ideas. Here is some inspiration if you’re looking for the perfect present for a brand new mum.

Treats and Sweets and Chocolate Goodies
According to Mumsnet (and where would we be without it?), the number one best gift you can get a new mum is a selection of delicious goodies. During those first few exhausting weeks, it’s a trial to get up and go to the kitchen to scrounge up food. So why not give new mums a delicious chocolate bar or two to keep them going between feeds?
In fact, you’d better buy dad a few, too — just to avoid parental squabbles.

A Lovely Hand Cream
It's not all sunshine and rainbows when you have a new baby. All the hand washing required — pre-and-post nappy changing — can take its toll on your skin. The answer is a quality hand cream, preferably a nourishing one with ingredients such as Shea butter and vitamin E.

Some Bath Salts for ‘Me Time’
We’ve all heard that new mums barely have time to go to the bathroom by themselves once baby is born — and it’s completely true. Not only do new mums find it hard to get some quality ‘’me time” with all the nappy changing, the feeding, the burping and the settling, but when they finally do get some downtime, they feel guilty. This really shouldn’t be the case. New mums are doing an incredible job. They put so much pressure and expectation on themselves, which is likely why up to 15% of new mums suffer from anxiety.
Remind new mums that they need to take care of themselves, too. A refreshed, contented mum can better care for their baby than a mum who is strained, stressed and exhausted. Spoiling mum with a few bath salts and bubbles is a good way to go — with explicit instructions to daddy that he must force her to take some time for herself every now and then — no excuses.

A Relaxing Candle
Ah, motherhood. It comes along with a plethora of smells and scents, most of which take some getting used to. Even the smell of formula milk can be a bit off-putting for certain mums, not to mention the aromas that emanate from nappies and the seemingly ever-present scent of baby vomit we can't seem to get rid of. It can be a lot for new mums. So why not spoil her with a smell that is altogether more appealing?
A new mum would very much welcome a couple of gently-scented, relaxing candles. Why not consider the soothing scent of lavender and geranium with a calming candle?

Baby Milestone Cards
The first few weeks and months whizz by as a new mum. When you’re in the thick of it, new motherhood is so all-consuming. When you haven’t slept for six months, it feels like six years. But when everything has finally settled down, the baby is finally sleeping like a little angel and you are beginning to feel yourself again, you start to think — where did the time go? When did my little angel start sitting up by themselves? When did they first roll over? When did they first smile?
Being able to look back at all these firsts and remember them — that’s a real gift. Possibly the best gift you can get for a new mum. Milestone cards offer this glimpse into baby’s growth and development.
