Here is a simple checklist of what you may want to include in your pregnancy hospital bag.

It can be helpful to have two separate bags — one for labour, and one for your hospital stay and going home.

Choose a bag that is easy to carry and easy to search through — it will likely be your partner looking for things during labour!

BAG 1 - LABOUR

1. Nightie Choose a loose-fitting, comfortable cotton one. This can be worn throughout labour. A simple, inexpensive option is ideal.

2. Bikini if you are planning a water birth

3. Slippers Many women end up walking during labour, so comfortable footwear is essential.

4. Jumper or Dressing Gown A warm layer is useful in case you feel cold.

5. Music or audio Load a playlist or calming audio to help you relax.

6. Birth plan if you have one

7. Pregnancy notes Keep them together with your birth plan

8. TENS machine if you plan to use one

9. Loose change for vending machines

10. Drinks and snacks Isotonic drinks and easy-to-eat snacks are helpful

12. Hairband

13. Glasses if needed

14. Toiletries travel-size essentials

BAG 2 - HOSPITAL STAY & GOING HOME

2. Cotton wool pads or wipes

3. Maternity pads

4. Nightwear loose, comfortable clothing

5. Underwear maternity bras, nursing pads and comfortable knickers

Top Tips When Packing Your Hospital Bag

Try to keep your bag organised so everything is easy to find during labour. Packing items in smaller compartments or bags can help.

It is also worth double-checking your list a couple of weeks before your due date to make sure nothing is missing.

You may want to leave space for any extras or last-minute items.

All the best for your upcoming birth.
